Vaughn D. Tobin, age 84, of Chesterville, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday evening, July 27, 2016, following an extended illness.

On February 24, 1932, Vaughn was born at home in Chesterville to the late Delbert and Blanche (Sipe) Tobin.  He grew up the son of Elmer M. and Marguerite K. (Adcock) Houseberg.  Vaughn graduated from Chester-Franklin High School in the Class of 1950.  There, he excelled in football, basketball and baseball, claiming all-league honors in each.  He was part of the first class inducted into the Highland Local School District Athletic Hall of Fame.

Out of high school, Vaughn began working at Mansfield Tire and Rubber.  In Feb. 1952, Vaughn proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in Nov. 1953, he returned to work at Mansfield Tire and Rubber.

Vaughn married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Miller at Chester Baptist Church on March 14, 1954.  They have lovingly shared the last 62 years as husband and wife, raising four children along the way.

A large portion of Vaughn’s life was spent working as a livestock and grain farmer. Few people possess the work ethic that he displayed on a daily basis.  He loved the hard work demanded of him as a farmer.

Later in life he became a corrections officer at Marion Correctional Institution.  He retired from there after 10 years of service.

A man of great faith, Vaughn was a member of Christ the King Community Church.   He was also a member of Korean Veterans of America, the National Farmers Organization and a previous President of the Morrow Co. Farm Bureau.

Each winter for the last 14 years, Vaughn and Barbara took time to wind down and relax in Frostproof, FL.  It was right in the middle of the orange groves and they felt at home in that farming area.

Vaughn’s greatest love in his life was his family.  He was proud of each and every one of them and relished in the fact he lived long enough to see five generations in his family, getting to meet his great-great grandson.  He enjoyed attending all of the kids sporting events through the years and was always an avid Ohio State and Cleveland Browns fan.
Vaughn will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Barbara; his daughter, Deb Miller of Pulaskiville; three sons: Dave (Denise) Tobin of Fredericktown, Dan (Terri) Tobin of Marion, Doug Tobin of Chesterville; five grandchildren: Jasen Warner, Trisha, Trent (Amy), Tyler and Tory Tobin; five great grandchildren: Tanner, Trever, Tate and Turner Tobin, Shyla McEowen; one great-great grandson, Avery Tobin; three sisters: June, Judy, Sally; and a brother, Mike.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur; a sister, Betty Lou, and a great granddaughter, Hannah Tobin.

The Tobin family will greet friends from 2 – 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead, OH 43338.  Services to honor and celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Christ the King Community Church, 15598 McClelland Rd., Fredericktown, OH 43019 with Rev. Timothy E. Meyer

PROSPECT: Timothy E. Meyer, 68, of Prospect passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at home. He battled polymyositis, an auto immune disease that attacked his muscles, for four years. He always had a positive attitude and never complained.

Tim was born September 10, 1947 in Troy to the late Louis and Nonie (Horton) Meyer. He married Jean Schmidt on May 31, 1977 in Marion and she survives in Prospect. He is also survived by a son, Greg, his wife Alicia and granddaughter Kayla, all of Marysville; a brother, Thomas (Peggy) Meyer, Dayton; a sister, Nonie (Danny) Chick, Powell; and many nieces and nephews; also surviving are brother-in-law, Jack (Barb) Schmidt; sister-in-law, Jill (John) Black, all of Arizona.

Tim was a graduate of Troy High School, The Ohio State University, and the University of Illinois. He spent many years helping others, first as a probation officer, then as a drug and alcohol counselor at Marion Correctional Institution, and 25 years as a clinical social worker before "retiring" to deliver auto parts.

Tim loved his family. He was happiest helping his son with projects at his home, working on his own home, or spending time in his garden and flower beds. He also enjoyed antiquing, adding to his many collections, or finding a piece in the rough and restoring it.

He loved to vacation in Florida, and even though he was a diehard Buckeye fan, he enjoyed northern Michigan's beauty and always brought home a bottle of cherry wine.

A celebration of life service will be Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 6:00 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Steve Whitaker officiating. Friends may call 2 hours prior to the service, beginning at 4:00 PM. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Troy at a later date.

Memorial gifts may be made to the National Organization of Rare Disorders (rarediseases.org), 55 Kenosia Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810. Please specify that your donation be placed in the Polymyositis Fund.
