Leslie E. “Les” Smith, 72 of Marion passed away on Wednesday August 31, 2022 at Marion General Hospital.
Les was born October 14, 1949 in Omaha, Nebraska to the
late Oscar and Marjorie (Wheeler) Smith. He was married June 14, 1978 to
Sandra (Bailey) Smith who survives.
In addition to his wife, Les is survived by children
Melissa Smith of
Nebraska, Sean Smith of Missouri, step children Amy Patterson-Helman (Kevin) of Edison, Susan Patterson-Pemberton (Brent) of Marion, and
Donald Patterson of Columbus; grandchildren Colton, Gavin, and Ryan
Smith, Cody and Ciara Pemberton, Zackary, Cory, and Kyle Helman, and
June and Marigold Patterson; great grandchild Joanna, Caisen, Kaison;
brothers Kenneth Smith and his wife Ellen of Alaska, Mark Smith and his
wife Jennifer of Colorado Springs, and as well as nieces and nephews.
Les was a graduate of Burke High School in Omaha
Nebraska, 1968 and the University of Maryland in 1984 and was a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy for 20 years. He retired from the State of Ohio as a Corrections
Officer and Interpreter after 20 years and worked with Abilities in Action
helping the handicap get jobs following retirement. Les enjoyed telling
stories and jokes, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service to be held for friends and family Friday September 9, 2022 at Knights of Columbus, 1232 E. Center St, Marion Ohio 43302 with doors opening at 6pm and Service at 7pm.
