MOUNT VERNON Joseph A. Belcher, 82, of Mount Vernon passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at the Country Court Nursing Center in Mount Vernon. He was born on May 30, 1939 in Mount Vernon to the late Herman “Doc” and Jean (Vernon) Belcher.
Joe
honorably served his country in the Marine Corp. He attended the Gay Street
United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon and was a member of the American
Legion, the Eagles and the V.F.W in Marion. Joe had worked for Marion Power
Shovel, Westinghouse in Columbus and retired from Marion C
orrection. He enjoyed
playing golf and softball, coaching baseball and loved to watch and listen to
the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cleveland Browns and Indians or anything sports
related.
Joe is survived by his children, Sean Belcher of California, Tim Belcher of Mount Vernon, Kelly Lowe of California, Christopher (Michelle) Belcher of Mount Vernon, Andy (Peggy) Belcher of California, Samantha Belcher of Marion and Melinda Russell of Marion; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; and a brother, Mark Belcher of Holmesville.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a sister, Rebecca Vanier.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St. Mount Vernon. A private funeral will be held with Mr. Roger Marra officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Gambier with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
The family would like to the thank Beth, Christina and Amanda from Interim Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Joe.
