MARION: James F. Fogle, 80, of Marion passed away Saturday evening, May 2, 2009 at Heartland of Marion after a lengthy illness.
A lifetime member of the Marion community he was born on February 9, 1929 the son of the late William and Marguerite (Klingel) Fogle.
He was a graduate of Marion Harding High School in the class of 1947. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Texas. He also served in the Ohio National Guard.
Shortly after his honorable discharge he married Jane (Moyer) Fogle on August 8, 1954 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church. They have shared a union and friendship that has lasted nearly 55 years.
His propensity to serve led him to the Marion Correctional Institution where he retired as a Major in 1991 after 30 years of service.
A man of great faith, James was a lifetime member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church where he served as a Deacon and on various boards.
He was an avid sports fan following any form of competition especially his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. He also enjoyed getting out on the golf course. Very social by nature, James took great pleasure in getting together with friends and family to play euchre or pinochle. His jovial personality and dry sense of humor shone the brightest in these social settings.
He will be dearly missed by his family who knew that he loved them in his own special way.
He will be missed by his wife, Jane; their children, Pastor James L. (Heather) Fogle of Livonia, Michigan; daughters, Ann E. Evans and Barbara J. (Chris) Saylor both of Marion; grandchildren, Sara Friend, Mollie Shonk, Mandy Davis, and Skipper Davis; step grandchildren, Chris Jr., Shannon, and Rusty Saylor; great grandchildren, Kelsey Ann Friend, Rhea Ann Shonk, and Ethan William Cress; and special friends, Paulette and Trevor Walker.
