Marilyn Diane Patterson, age 76 of Marion, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Marion General Hospital. She was born on October 16, 1946 to the late Arthur Eugene and Dora Belle (White) Rutledge in Marion, and on August 19, 1996, she married her late husband, Robert Patterson. Marilyn and Robert met while they worked together at Marion Correctional Institution; their careers there spanned over a decade each and they retired within months of each other in 2005.
Marilyn loved spending time with her family and pets, reading mystery novels, and watching television, which is where she found much of her fashionable jewelry. In her younger years, she very much enjoyed traveling around Marion and surrounding areas looking for yard sales. Marilyn was heavily involved in bible studies, preaching and officiating weddings as a minister, and attended church whenever she could.
She is survived by her stepdaughter Lori (Mark) Keppler; her brother Joe (Rosella) Rutledge; her grandsons Joseph and Austin Craig; 4 step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and her niece Angel Augustine.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Patterson; her daughter Chasity Craig; her brothers Michael and Kenneth Rutledge; and her parents Arthur and Dora.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 10 am at Marion Cemetery with Chaplain Angel Augenstine officiating.
