Gary W. Mitchell

 


December 8, 1947 ~ December 7, 2023 (age 75)

Gary W. Mitchell passed peacefully surrounded by loving family at Marion General Hospital Dec. 7, 2023

Born December 8, 1947 in Marion, Ohio. Gary was a beloved father, husband, brother, friend, solider, and hero. He graduated from Ridgedale High School, and served 2 tours in Vietnam. Gary survived the war and came home to start a family. He married Vickie (Rauth) and had a son, Gary Aaron Mitchell. He later married Nancy (Dible) in May 1998, and added two stepsons to his family, Scott Dible and Kevin Cain. He was an animal lover and had many passions, such as hunting , motorcycles, and NASCAR but none so prevalent as his love for hot-rods and muscle cars. Mr. Mitchell was an avid gear head and the envy of everyone shooting the loop in his favorite 67' GTO. He later became a corrections officer, and retired from MCI.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents Max and Elizabeth (Betty) Peterson Mitchell, and his brother David Mitchell. Those left to honor his memory are his wife Nancy Mitchell, son Gary Aaron (Amy) Mitchell, stepsons Derek Scott (Trista) Dible, and Kevin (Kavita) Cain. Sister Kathy (Mike) Brady, grandson Aaron Wayne (Macy) Mitchell, and great grandson Zion Mitchell. He will also be missed by his 9 step grandchildren , 5 step great grandchildren , cousins , and his best friend Sassy, his companion cat of 17 years. As well as many other family members. 

Gary will be dearly missed.

Friends may call at the Boyd Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, the 14th, at 1:00 PM with burial to follow in the Grand Prairie Cemetery. Rev. Nathan McBeth will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Gary’s name to assist with funeral expenses.

Michael E. Lester

 


Michael E. Lester, 65, of Langsville, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at home from a heart attack on September 2, 2023. He had been receiving treatment for Leukemia for the second time from The James Cancer Hospital, which was going well.

Michael thoroughly enjoyed his retirement days for over the last decade. He always had pets, and Snoopy was by his side to the end.

Michael is survived by his son, Michael P. Lester of Marion, and his daughter, Melissa Lester (Andrew Rosebrook) of Columbus. He is also survived by his grandson, Daniel Welch, and his granddaughters, Olivia Rosebrook and Emma Rosebrook. Michael is also survived by his brothers, Jerry (Patti) Lester of Waldo and Steve Lester of Marion. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Junior Lester, his mother, Doris Jean (Byrd) Lester-Howell, and his aunts and uncles.

Michael attended Marion Harding High School. He served in the Ohio National Guard and had a career with the State of Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections for 30 years. He was a dedicated and disciplined individual, serving his country and community with honor.

In his free time, Michael enjoyed various hobbies. He loved hunting, whether it was for deer, turkey, squirrels, coyotes, or simply target practicing with anything from a crossbow to air pellet guns. He also enjoyed kayaking, camping, fishing, playing games online, and watching the latest action or blockbuster movies. Michael cherished spending time with friends and family, and always made an effort to visit or talk with them.

His ashes will be spread at a special location at a later date in accordance with his wishes. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) or OSU The James Cancer Hospital.

Michael E. Lester will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will be cherished forever.

Robert E. Stark age 81 of Marion, Ohio passed away Monday, August 7, 2023 at his residence.

Born on March 15, 1942 in Marion, Ohio to the late Bernard and S. Lilian (West) Stark. Robert's journey through life was one of exploration and expression. His fascination with the craftsmanship of old cars led him to a world where he could admire the elegance of a bygone era. He found solace in the intricacies of their design and the stories they told, sharing his enthusiasm with fellow enthusiasts and kindred spirits.

Robert's love for the open road extended beyond four wheels; it also encompassed the thrill of riding motorcycles. The wind in his hair and the feeling of freedom that riding brought him were truly sources of joy. His adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors ignited a fire within him that he shared with all who had the privilege of knowing him.

But it was his artistic prowess that truly set Robert apart. His hands, seemingly guided by magic, crafted beautiful pieces of art from blocks of wood. His woodworking skills were a testament to his patience and dedication to his craft. Whether it was a carefully carved figurine or a functional masterpiece, each piece bore the signature touch of a true artist.

Robert's creativity knew no bounds, extending into the realm of painting and drawing. His canvas came alive with vibrant colors, each stroke telling a story and capturing the essence of his subjects. His ability to capture emotions and moments through his artwork was a reflection of the depth of his understanding of the human experience.

Robert was formerly employed at Tecumseh Products for over 30 years and retired from MCI in the furniture factory after 20 years of service.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Ann Stark of Marion, OH., grandchildren, Jennifer (Ian) Moore, Meghan (Scott) Stoll, Cherokee Stark, Cheyenne (Dan) Duke, great Grandchildren, Alaina, Abby, Gaven, Zander, his sister, Velma “Sally” (Ron) Nauman of Marion, OH., nieces and nephews, Katrina Nauman, George Hichcock, Mary Hitchcock Landdeck, Debbie Dewesse, Linda and Becky.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Shawn Alan “Pappy” Stark, siblings, Paul Hitchcock, Douglas “Brian” Stark, Marguerite Tharp, Walter Hitchcock, his grandson, Christian Stark, nephew, Langley Hitchcock and niece, Karen Houseman.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 11, 2023 from 12-2 PM at Snyder Funeral Home Gunder/Hall Chapel. Funeral Service will begin at 2PM at the funeral home with Pastor Jeremy Stout officiating. Burial will take place at Claridon Cemetery.
