Robert P. "Bob" Martin



MARION: Robert P. "Bob" Martin, age 67, of Marion, Ohio, passed away Friday, October 14, 2011 at Woodside Village in Mt. Gilead, Ohio.

He was born November 3, 1943 in Lansing, MI., to Bettie (Reynolds) Brooks and James Erskine, his mother survives in Marion.

On November 26, 1969 he married June (Prater) Martin, she survives in Marion.

Bob was employed at Tecumseh Products in Quality Control for 17 years and retired as a Corrections Officer at M.C.I. after 17 years. He was a U.S. Marine serving during Vietnam where he received the Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campain Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Purple Heart Medal. While he was stationed in Washington D.C. he was part of the Silent Drill Team. Bob was very involved in many organizations, he was a longtime member of the American Legion Post #584, Charter Member Stephen Cheney V.F.W. Post #7201, Past President of Vietnam Veterans in Marion and was envolved in starting Veterans Park in Marion.

Bob is survived by his mother, Bettie Brooks of Marion; his wife, June Martin of Marion; son, Robert "Travis" Martin of Marion, daughter, Paula Martin of Sunbury, OH; half brother, Wayne (Robyn) Erskine of Hartford, CT, half sister, Michele (Lew) Gorre of Rocky Point, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Bob will be held Thursday, October 20, 2011 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 21, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Boyd-Born Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Snyder officiating, burial will follow at Grand Prairie Cemetery where the Marion County Veterans Council will hold a military service to honor Bob.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any Veterans Organization in Bob's name.

Paul E. Clark


NEW BLOOMINGTON: Paul E. Clark, age 73, of New Bloomington, Ohio, died Thursday October 13, 2011 at 4:10 AM. He died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family after battling cancer for nearly three years. He was born November 1, 1937 in Oak Hill, Ohio to the late Arthur and Frances (Crabtree) Clark.

On July 18, 1980 he married Carolyn L. McCarty and she survives. Along with his wife of 31 years, he is survived by sons, Jeff Clark of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Shawn Clark of New Bloomington, Ohio; daughters, Yvonne (Rick) Hollenback of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Dawn (Shawn Gunnoe) Clark of Marion, Ohio. Special friend Little Carl; brothers, Herman (Sue) Clark of Lakeview, Ohio and Evan (Ali) Clark of Marion; sisters, Pam (Rocky) Giffin of New Albany, Ohio, Barbara (Dale) Bush of Arlington, TX; grandchildren, Nathan Clark, Brandi Shedio, Jennifer Hayes, Brittany Clark, Brooklyn Clark and Ashley Turley; great grandchildren, Ava, Aiden and Eli Shedio; and many nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Clark, sisters; Dessie Moore, Dorothy Evans, Juanita McCain, Beatrice Crabtree and Joanne Allen; and brother, Wendell Clark.

He attended Oak Hill High School and later received his GED in 1980. He worked as an auto mechanic for many years and had fourteen years in at R. J. Reynolds in Jackson, Ohio before moving to Marion. There he worked at Marion Correctional Institution as a paint supervisor and retired in 2000 after 18 years.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday October 18, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in LaRue, Ohio. Minister will be the Rev. Robin Wells. Burial in the Agosta Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home in LaRue from 5 to 8 PM on Monday.
