MARION: Charles L. "Barney" Bernhard, age 73, of Marion, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at his residence.
He was born October 5, 1936 in Flint, MI., to the late Susman and Blanch (Goodman) Bernhard.
Charles was first married to Elizabeth (TerBush) in 1957, he then was married to Annice K. (Apthorp) in 1989, they have been together since 1968, Annice passed away in 1999.
He was employed at Tecumseh for 19 years until it closed, then was a Correction Officer at M.C.I. for 16 years until he retired in 2002.
He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth V. Fast of Phoenix, AZ., Dorothea A. "Dottie" (Edward F.) Aitken Sr. of Brighton, MO; a son, Stephen J. (Fiance Terry Laau) Laster Sr. of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchidren, Dawn M. Lester, Stephen J. Lester Jr., Joseph C. Aitken, Mary E. Crossland, Dorothea A. "Dot" Aitken, Ryan A. Wilcox, Victoria L. Aitken; nine great grandchildren, Dominque Lester, McKinsey Delaney, Lucas Hedges, Mason Lester, Kaden Lester, Ethan Ford, Lance Crossland, Edward Aitken III, and Annika Redus-Aitken.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Adophl, Harold, Leonard, Marvin Sr., and Norman.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 15, 2010 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. A Graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 16, 2010, 1 p.m. at the Marion Cemetery with Rev. Hugh Daley officiating. The M.C.I. Honor Guards will stand guard over the casket at the visitation and participate as pallbearers for the graveside service.
